It is possible to do something commanded by the Lord without faith. In this case the action is merely coincidental. But it is not possible to have true faith without obedience, for the Scripture says, “without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him” (Heb 11:6).
Under no circumstance do we ever find love or faith unattended by obedience and action. Where love is, there is a keeping of His word. Where faith is, there is diligence in seeking Him.
Therefore, we ought never to say, “I love Jesus,” unless we are striving to keep His word. And let us not say, “I have faith in God,” unless we are diligently seeking Him.
